Bellavista Cloud Forest
The road from Quito to the Could Forest of the Mindo area is spectacular, dropping from the Andes towards the cloud forest. The Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge is located in the high cloud forest at 2,200 metres, offering wonderful views as well as great trails through the forest. As the area is on the slopes of a mountain, the flora and fauna vary depending which altitude you are at. There are 16 varieties of humming birds close to the lodge itself.
The cloud forest here is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with 330 species of birds in the Tandayapa Valley, where Bellavista is located. There are 10km of trails near the lodge, ranging from the relatively easy to the more adventurous. You can also visit one of the 4 waterfalls in the area.
