Discover Argentina, Chile and Rio

Chile and Argentina have some of the most dramatic landscapes on the planet, with an incredible diversity of natural attractions. The steppe of Patagonia in the south is home to vast sheep ranches in both Argentina and Chile, as well as the amazing Torres del Paine in Chile, one of world’s great national parks, with trekking, horse riding and mountain biking. Tierra del Fuego, on the Beagle Channel, is the southernmost tip of the Americas. The breathtaking Perito Moreno glacier is one of the world’s great natural wonders, where huge chunks of ice crash into Lago Argentino as the glacier advances. It is even possible to walk on the surface of the glacier.

Iguazu Falls, straddling the border of Argentina and Brazil, are possibly the most spectacular waterfalls in the world, with over 270 separate falls, up to 80 metres high, stretching for a mile and a half through lush sub-tropical jungle. The Atacama Desert in the north of Chile presents a stark contrast. This is the driest place on earth, and home to incredible scenery, from dramatic moonscapes, to the largest geyser field in the southern hemisphere. The Lake District, in both Chile and Argentina, offers beautiful views of mountains and volcanoes, lakes and forests. Easter Island, in the south seas, is a beautiful volcanic island, but it is the incredible giant statues scattered across the landscape that make this one of the strangest places anywhere in the world.

However, natural wonders are only part of the attraction. Buenos Aires in Argentina has long been the cultural capital of Spanish South America, where the people pride themselves on enjoying the good life, with excellent food, wine and sophisticated tango. Santiago, the capital of Chile, is a modern city at the foothills of the Andes. The area around the city produces some of the best wines in South America. Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, is a city of true Latin vibrancy. It has one of the most incredible settings of any place on earth, where the lush, tropical mountains roll into the Atlantic Ocean. Much of life is conducted on Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, where the beautiful people play football and volleyball.
