Itinerary

Day 1 (Wednesday) Buenos Aires
Fly from the UK to Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, arriving in the evening. You are met at the airport and transferred to your hotel (2 nights).

Day 2 (Thursday) Buenos Aires
A free day in Buenos Aires. Take the optional half day Historic Buenos Aires excursion to explore different areas of the city; including the Pink House made famous by Evita, the historic area of San Telmo, La Boca, and the old port before continuing to La Recoleta, one of the most elegant neighbourhoods of the city.

Day 3 (Friday) El Calafate
Fly from Buenos Aires to the town of El Calafate, located on the shores of Lake Argentino in southern Patagonia (3 nights). In the afternoon maybe go bird watching at nearby Nimes Lagoon or take the optional Patagonia Four Wheel Drive excursion . This 3 hour excursion takes you across the Patagonian steppe by Land Rover, and you will be able admire wonderful views of the granite Mount FitzRoy (on clear days) and Lake Argentino.

Day 4 (Saturday) El Calafate
A 90 minute drive along the shores of Lake Argentino takes you to the Perito Moreno Glacier, part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. You first visit the walkways, where you can see the face of the 60-metre high glacier up close. Here you can listen to the groans and creaks as the glacier breathes, and, if you are lucky, watch immense chunks of ice break off the glacier and crash into the lake. Then take a boat ride to see the glacier from a different perspective. After a packed lunch, you have time to explore the glacier and walkways on your own, before returning to El Calafate in the late afternoon. Please note, the order of the visits may vary.

Day 5 (Sunday) El Calafate
A free day in El Calafate or take the optional full day Estancia Cristina excursion across Lake Argentino to an old sheep ranch. You are collected from your hotel before driving to Puerto Bandera, before crossing Lake Argentino, sailing among the icebergs. Visit Estancia Cristina, beautifully located in the shadow of the mountains and close to glaciers. Enjoy a 4 wheel drive tour to a lookout point over the impressive Upsala Glacier.

Day 6 (Monday) Ushuaia
Fly from El Calafate to Ushuaia located at the tip of Argentina (2 nights). Located on the Beagle channel, Ushuaia is impressively set, with forests, glaciers and mountains rising up behind to provide a striking back drop (2 nights).

Day 7 (Tuesday) Ushuaia
In the morning, take a boat trip on the Beagle Channel on a catamaran. You have wonderful views of the coastal mountains and islands. You sail to a sea lion colony and a penguin colony, where you have a chance to observe the wildlife. You may also see several species of sea birds, maybe including albatrosses. In October, the visit to the penguin colony is not possible. In this month, you disembark on Bridges Island, where you have a chance to see some of the wildlife closer up. In the afternoon, you have free time to explore the island, perhaps, if time allows visit Estancia Haberton which was founded by a British missionary at the end of the 19th century.

Day 8 (Wednesday) Buenos Aires
Morning free in Ushuaia, perhaps visit the nearby Tierra del Fuego national park by The End of the World Train. Afternoon flight to Buenos Aires (2 nights).

Day 9 (Thursday) Puerto Iguazu
A morning flight from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu, located on the Argentinean side of the border (2 nights). In the afternoon, visit the Brazilian side of the Iguazu Falls, from where you appreciate the grandeur of the falls. The Brazilian side of the falls has less walkways but it does provide the best panoramic view of the falls.

Day 10 (Friday) Puerto Iguazu
A free day to explore the Argentinean side of the falls by yourself. Here, you can follow the walkways, seeing the falls from the waters edge below and also from above. You can also take an adrenalin-flled (and drenching) boat ride to the base of the falls. Alternatively, if you would like a guided tour, take the optional Argentinean Iguazu Falls excursion. This morning excursion visits the Argentinean side of the falls; visiting the upper and lower circuit. The tour lasts approximately 4 hours.

Day 11 (Saturday) Buenos Aires
Fly from Puerto Iguazu to Buenos Aires. In the evening, take the optional Tango Dinner Show excursion to the Esquina Carlos Gardel theatre, where musicians and singers playing classic tango while professional dancers perform. A good dinner, with wine or soft drinks, is included at your table.

Day 12 (Sunday)
Fly overnight to the UK.

Day 13 (Monday)
Arrival in the UK.

Departures in 2011 have one day less in El Calafate and one day more in Buenos Aires. Ask us for details.
