Day 1 (Tuesday) San Jose Fly from the UK to San Jose, where you are met and transferred to your hotel (2 nights).
Day 2 (Wednesday) San Jose Enjoy a free day in San Jose or take the optional full day Poas Volcano & Coffee Plantation excursion. Here you will be taken to the nearby Poas Volcano, where you will be able to peer into the smoking crater. After lunch, enjoy a tour of the Doka coffee plantation.
Day 3 (Thursday) Tortuguero A beautiful 3 hour coach journey some on unpaved road through the Braulio Carillo National Park. Then take a 2-hour boat ride to your jungle lodge in Tortuguero (2 nights). The boat cruises down jungle waterways inhabited by monkeys and varied birdlife. After lunch, you can visit the community of Tortuguero to learn about efforts to protect the turtles.
Day 4 (Friday) Tortuguero Explore the secondary canals of the jungle by boat, from where you will hopefully be able to spot some of Tortuguero’s amazing wildlife, including sloths, caimans, spider and howler monkeys and a huge variety of birds. From April to November, it may be possible to arrange a turtle-watching tour to see sea turtles arriving to lay eggs at night.
Day 5 (Saturday) Arenal Enjoy a morning boat ride back along the canals to Caño Blanco. After lunch, take a beautiful road journey, arriving in Arenal in the late afternoon. (2 nights) Enjoy views of the volcano, active since 1968.
Day 6 (Sunday) Arenal Take the optional afternoon Arenal Volcano & Tabacon Hot Springs excursion, where you will the nearby Arenal National Park to explore the base of the volcano on foot. In the evening relax in the amazing Tabacon hot springs where a buffet dinner is included.
Day 7 (Monday) Monteverde A 3-hour transfer, some on bumpy roads, to your hotel in the Monteverde cloud forest (2 nights), including a beautiful boat ride across Lake Arenal, offering wonderful views of the volcano. In the afternoon, take the optional Monteverde Skywalk excursion, a network of trails and bridges which lead you through the canopy of the cloud forest.
Day 8 (Tuesday) Monteverde Take the optional morning half day Monteverde Cloud Forest excursion to explore the beautiful national park. This excursion allows you to explore the trails around the Monteverde Cloud Forest; your guide will help you identify and spot a huge variety of flora and fauna. The afternoon is free to try one of the adventure activities or re-visit the Monteverde or Santa Elena Cloud Forest. You can also take a night time walk in the cloud forest.
Day 9 (Wednesday) San Jose Take a 3-hour journey from Monteverde to San Jose (1 night). Do some final shopping or perhaps visit the centre of San Jose.
Day 10 (Thursday) Fly overnight to the UK.
Day 11 (Friday) Arrival in the UK.
