Explore the beautiful city and the surrounding Inca ruins and then take a breaktaking ride to the lost city of Machu Picchu, or maybe walk the Short Inca Trail. The Amazon rainforest east of Cusco is the most biodiverse area on the planet, and a stay in a jungle lodge is a fantastic way to explore this ecosystem. Travel by dugout canoe and follow jungle trails to see the flora and fauna of the area.

Take a flight over the Nazca Lines, 2,000-year old etchings of animals and birds in the face of the desert. The nearby Ballestas Islands are home to thousands of sea lions, penguins and birds, and a boat ride allows you to see these amazing creatures up close. Ica is a desert town surrounded by sand dunes, where you can go sand buggying or try sandboarding or just relax around the pool.

The north coast of Peru contains probably the finest archaeological sites in Peru. The incredible treasures of the Lord of Sipan were only discovered in 1987 after looted relics alerted archaeologists. Chan Chan is the world’s largest adobe city and the nearby Temple of the Moon contains some of the finest painted friezes in Peru. Trujillo is a beautiful colonial city.
