Llama Travel was set up by Luca Newbold, who lived in Peru for four years and travelled around much of Latin America. When he returned to the UK in 2002, along with the former managing director of Thomson Holidays, he set up Llama Travel with the aim of making holidays to Peru more affordable, so that everyone could experience this amazing country at least once in their lifetime.
In the years since, Llama Travel has expanded to offer holidays throughout Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East; we now offer holidays to over 20 destinations around the world. All of our holidays offer the same combination of great value, small groups, flexibility and expertise we became known for in Peru in our early years as a specialist tour operator.
From our head office in London, we arrange holidays for thousands of travellers every year, earning wonderful feedback, and we’ve won multiple awards, including the Best Specialist Tour Operator at The Telegraph Travel Awards 2025.

Our Approach: Small Groups, Great Value
We design all of our holidays with the same approach: Small Groups, Great Value.
Small Groups
We have a maximum group size of 18, and in some destinations this is even smaller. For example, on Kenya safaris, we have a maximum of just 6 guests. If any departure exceeds the maximum group size, we divide the group into two. Our groups average just 11 guests per departure.
Great Value
Along with small groups, each of our holidays guarantees great value. While this doesn't mean we choose the cheapest flights and cheapest hotels in every destination, we select those that offer the best value for money compared to the quality of the experience.
Because of the way we work, our costs are lower and so are our prices. We check our prices regularly against our competitors and make sure ours are the best.
If, when you want to book, you find the holiday you want is available at a better price elsewhere, let us know. As long as the holidays are genuinely comparable, we will reduce our price to beat the other one. We must be able to verify that the alternative holiday is available on the same dates and is genuinely comparable.
