Valparaíso

Valparaíso on the Pacific coast is one of Chile's most interesting cities. Here, colourful houses tumble down the hills to the sea, and a series of funiculars take you up and down for spectacular views. The city was an important port in the 19th century, and was also once home to the poet Pablo Neruda, Chile’s most famous son.
