7 Reasons to Visit Uzbekistan with Llama Travel

From dazzling Silk Road cities and ancient desert fortresses to colourful bazaars and warm, welcoming hospitality, Uzbekistan is a destination that never fails to surprise and inspire. Llama Travel’s Uzbekistan itinerary has been designed to ensure you make the most of your time in this incredible destination. Here are 7 reasons why you should visit Uzbekistan with Llama Travel.
1. Small groups – especially useful on walking tours
At Llama Travel, our groups are a maximum of 18 people, making it easier and quicker to get around. In Uzbekistan, where ancient history and vibrant culture are around every corner, a smaller group helps you make the most of every moment. It also means more opportunities to interact with your guide, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the country’s rich Silk Road heritage and local traditions.
Samarkand
2. Travel in comfort by train, plane and road
Llama Travel itineraries include a mix of train, plane and road travel, designed to make sure you make the most of your time in Uzbekistan. The country has a well-developed rail network, and travelling by high-speed train allows for a quicker and more comfortable journey. We use high-speed trains where possible, for the journeys to Bukhara to Samarkand, and from Samarkand to Tashkent. This ensures you make the most of your time in these destinations, arriving feeling refreshed with more time to explore. For the journey from Tashkent to Khiva, flying is the only practical option. To make the most of this day, you go straight from Urgench airport to explore the nearby desert fortresses, before transferring to Khiva. For the more remote routes, such as on the journey between Khiva and Bukhara, a comfortable vehicle allows you to take in the flat desert landscape and imagine the historic trade caravans which would have once passed through the area, although road conditions can still be bumpy.

3. Good hotels
Hotel standards in Uzbekistan can vary, so we’ve handpicked comfortable, well-located hotels to ensure you have a restful base at the end of each day. After exploring ancient cities and vibrant markets, you can unwind in comfort, recharge, and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep, ready for the adventures ahead.

4. Plenty of time in Uzbekistan’s highlights
With so much to see at each stop, our Silk Road tour makes sure to include plenty of time so that you can take in all the highlights Uzbekistan has to offer.
Samarkand
One of the oldest cities in Central Asia, it is a legendary stop on the Silk Road. Known for its Islamic architecture, explore the magnificent Registan Square at the heart of the city before moving on to the Shah-i-Zinda and Bibi-Khanym Mosque. Take an optional excursion to visit nearby Shahrisabz, where impressive ruins and ornate mausoleums reveal the legacy of one of Central Asia’s most powerful rulers.
Registan Square, Samarkand
Khiva
One of the best-preserved Silk Road cities, known for its maze of narrow alleyways, turquoise-tiled minarets, and sand-coloured madrasahs. Its walled town, Itchan Kala, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, gives the feel of an open-air museum.
Walled Town, Khiva
Bukhara
Bukhara is filled with madrasahs, mosques, and caravanserais, offering an insight into over 2,000 years of history.
Old Town, Bukhara
Tashkent
Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, is a vibrant mix of modernity and ancient history, where Central Asia’s rich traditions meet contemporary life.
Chorsu Bazaar, Tashkent
5. Beyond the highlights, see other fascinating sites
At Llama Travel, we like to show you beyond the main tourist trail. As well as the iconic cities, you’ll have the chance to explore the remote Khoresmian desert fortresses, take a ride on the beautifully decorated Tashkent Metro, and opt to take a trip to the Summer Palace of Bukhara, the summer residence of the last Emir of Bukhara.
Kyzyl Kala Fortress
6. Mix of guided tours and free time to explore on your own
Strike a balance between expert guidance and personal discovery with a mix of informative guided visits alongside plenty of free time to explore at your own pace. Whether you want to sip tea in a Chaikhana or test your bartering in a bazaar, you’ll have the freedom to make your own discoveries while still benefiting from the knowledge of a local guide.
