7 Reasons to Travel to Chile with Llama Travel

Chile is one of South America’s most rewarding destinations, offering a mix of scenic landscapes, vibrant cities and unique natural wonders. From hiking through the epic Torres del Paine National Park to unwinding in the Chilean Lake District with its volcanoes and crystal-clear lakes, there’s a never-ending array of attractions to discover.

At Llama Travel, we focus on creating high-quality holidays that give you flexibility, security and great value for money. See below why our Chile holidays really are better!

1. Build the holiday you want

Everyone has different priorities for their holiday to Chile, and at Llama Travel, we let you mix and match extensions, excursions and accommodation to create the holiday you want. Our base programme, Natural Wonders of Chile, covers many of the highlights, including Patagonia, the Lake District and Santiago. You can then add extensions to see even more of Chile. Perhaps, explore the beautiful Atacama Desert, earth’s driest desert, or travel to Easter Island in the South Pacific to discover the mysterious Moai statues. You can also extend your trip to other South American countries, maybe combining Chilean Patagonia with the incredible Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina, or have a complete contrast by visiting Brazil, Peru or Bolivia.

2. Small Groups

At Llama Travel, our groups are a maximum of 18 people, which makes it easier to get around, whether you’re walking through the busy and colourful streets of Santiago or exploring Torres del Paine National Park. Smaller groups mean less waiting around, more flexibility on excursions, and a smoother overall experience. You also get more chances to interact with your guide, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of Chile’s history, culture and landscapes.

3. Stay in fantastically-located hotel in Torres del Paine, with amazing view of the peaks

Visiting Torres del Paine National Park is one of the great experiences most rewarding experiences in Chile, and after an adventurous day exploring the peaks and lakes, come back to relax in one of the most comfortable hotels in the region. Located just across the River Serrano, the Hotel Rio Serrano offers magnificent views of the Paine Massif, as well as comfortable rooms, a swimming pool, a great restaurant and bar.

4. Explore Torres del Paine your way

Torres del Paine is one of South America’s greatest national parks, covering over 180,000 hectares of mountains, glaciers, lakes and rivers. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including guanacos, foxes, condors and rhea. The park is also one of the world’s best trekking destinations, with routes ranging from easy walks to challenging hikes. At Llama Travel, we make sure your visit to Torres del Paine is exactly what you want, giving you the flexibility to explore at your own pace.

All our holidays include a full-day tour of the park by road, exploring the valleys, soaring peaks, and glacial lakes. You can also add a boat ride, sailing among floating icebergs before arriving at the magnificent 40-metre-high Grey Glacier, where you can listen to the ice breathe.

For those looking for a real challenge, the Las Torres Trek is an 18km hike ascending through beech forests, across mountain ridges, and bringing you to the base of the granite towers that give the park its name.

If you want an easier hike, the Short Torres del Paine Hike is a 6km walk on the Aonikenk trail, with some ups and downs but less steep than most in the park. Along the way, you can see prehistoric rock paintings, herds of guanacos and a wide range of birdlife, with views of the Paine massif.

Another way to experience the national park is on our Torres del Paine Horse Ride excursion where local gauchos guide you through Magellanic forest and across grasslands, with views of the Serrano River and the Paine massif. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot condors and other birdlife soaring over the snow-capped peaks.

5. Discover the mysterious Easter Isalnd

Easter Island is the most remote inhabited island on Earth, lying almost 2,200 miles from mainland Chile, and it takes a five-hour flight from Santiago to get there. Famous for its 800 Moai statues, you explore statues on ceremonial platforms scattered across the island, the quarry where the statues were carved, volcanic craters, and beautiful white coral sandy beach. With its unique history, Easter Island offers something completely different to the rest of Chile.

6. Extend your Chile adventure to Argentina, Brazil, Peru or Bolivia

A visit to Chile combines perfectly with other countries in South America. In particular, combining Chile with Argentina is a fantastic way to explore much of South America on one trip. Make your way down the length of Chile, then cross over into Argentina to see a different side of Patagonia, then enjoy great food in Buenos Aires, before feeling the spray from the thundering Iguazu Falls. You can even extend to end your trip in Brazil, visiting Christ the Redeemer in vibrant Rio de Janeiro. Or why not explore the lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu, in Peru. For something truly unique, take an epic road journey from the vast Uyuni Salt Flats of Bolivia to the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, passing otherworldly landscapes on the way.
