7 Reasons to Travel to Namibia with Llama Travel

From the vast golden-orange sand dunes of Sossusvlei, to spotting lions, elephants and rhinos in Etosha National Park, and exploring the quaint German architecture of Windhoek and Swakopmund, there is so much to discover in Namibia. Llama Travel’s Namibia itinerary has been designed to ensure you make the most of your time in this exciting destination. Here are 7 reasons why you should visit Namibia with Llama Travel.

1. Small Groups

At Llama Travel, our group size on average is 11 people, with a maximum of 18, making it easier to get around and enjoy every experience without feeling rushed. Smaller groups make a real difference, as you’ll have more opportunities to interact with your guide, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of Namibia’s landscapes and wildlife.

2. See the highlights of Namibia

All Llama Travel’s Namibia itineraries include the country’s must-see highlights, from vast desert landscapes and stunning dunes to some of the best wildlife spotting in the world. Each journey is carefully planned so you can experience the real variety Namibia has to offer.

a) Kalahari Desert

Travel into the red-sand desert and endless grass plains of the Kalahari, a remote and beautiful desert region. Take a Kalahari Sundowner Game Drive excursion, with the chance to spot giraffe, zebra and wildebeest, followed by a beautiful sunset over the desert.

b) See the world’s largest sand dunes, and the skeletons of long-dead trees in Sossusvlei

At Llama Travel, we make sure you experience Sossusvlei at its very best. By entering the park at sunrise, you see some of the highest sand dunes in the world at their most picturesque, with the first light casting long shadows across the sand. Once you reach the end of the 60km paved road, you switch to a park-operated vehicle to reach Deadvlei, a large, ghostly expanse of dried white clay, punctuated by skeletons of ancient camelthorn trees.

If you are feeling very adventurous, there is also the chance to climb the tallest dune in the Sossusvlei area, Big Daddy. If you would like to read more, you can check out our product manager’s experience of climbing Big Daddy and exploring Deadvlei.

c) Wildlife cruise from Swakopmund on the Skeleton coast

From Swakopmund on the skeleton Coast, take a catamaran cruise, where you’ll spend the morning spotting dolphins, whales, turtles, seals and pelicans, with fresh oysters and sparkling wine served as you cruise past Pelican Point.

3. Discover Africa’s big game wildlife

Beyond the vast sand dunes and dramatic desert scenery, Namibia is also home to incredible wildlife. You can spot lions, leopards, elephants and rhino, along with zebra, giraffe and many other species, making it a fantastic safari destination.

a) Etosha National Park

A highlight of any Namibia trip is spending time on safari in Etosha National Park, one of southern Africa’s great wildlife reserves. With Llama Travel, you spend three nights in two different lodges in different parts of the park, allowing you to make the most of your visit to Etosha. Take game drives on all three days, exploring the southern and eastern regions, giving you the best chance to spot the incredible big game. As you travel through the park, your driver will regularly stop at waterholes so you can get the best chance of spotting the wildlife.

Each day brings something different, depending on sightings and animal movements. You can choose to take an open vehicle game drive excursion for a more classic safari experience With nothing between you and the wilderness, it offers fantastic photography opportunities and a real sense of being part of the landscape.

b) Go rhino tracking in the untamed and ruggedly beautiful Damaraland

Damaraland is huge, remote and ruggedly beautiful, with wide open plains and striking rock formations. You can choose our optional Rhino Tracking excursion, where your day starts early with a qualified guide and tracker to search for these amazing creatures on foot.

4. Take an epic road trip through otherworldly scenery

The journey is as much a part of the adventure as the destination in  Namibia, and at Llama Travel our itineraries are designed to make the most of it. You cover over 2,000 kilometres on our Wildlife & Wilderness of Namibia trip. Sitting and absorbing the vast landscapes is as memorable as spotting game or climbing the vast dunes.

5. Stay in comfortable hotels

Hotel standards in Namibia can vary, so we’ve carefully selected comfortable and conveniently located hotels and lodges throughout your journey, whether you’re in a lively city, deep in the desert, or close to wildlife areas. After long drives, and early-morning game drives, you’ll return to a welcoming place to relax, refresh and get ready for the next adventure.

6. Extend your Namibia adventure to Victoria Falls or Cape Town

After your Namibia adventure, you can extend your trip to see the mighty Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, with time to explore freely or join optional excursions, including a wildlife trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana. Or head to Cape Town where you can visit the Table Mountain, explore colourful neighbourhoods, historic sites and local markets, with plenty of free time and guided optional excursions to choose from.
